Chapati, also known as roti, is the everyday bread of Northern India — simple, wholesome, and deeply rooted in tradition. Made only with flour and water, this unleavened flatbread is cooked on a hot griddle until it puffs up beautifully. Soft, lightly toasted, and subtly nutty in flavor, chapati pairs perfectly with curries, lentils, and spiced vegetables. It’s one of the oldest types of bread in the world — a humble yet essential companion to countless Indian meals.
